1st of a 3 Part Series
Session 1: Drumming, Creating Sacred Space, Connecting with Nature Spirit Allies

In our present climate, mental health challenges are at an all-time high. So many people are burdened with fear of the future, hopelessness, crippling stress and uncertainty. Sometimes they are advised to meditate as a way of coping but it is virtually impossible to meditate properly when depression or stress zaps your energy.
During Laurie’s health journey for example, doctors were so quick to point to depression or anxiety as the culprit and prescribe her copious amounts of various drugs. Never touching the root cause (Neuro Lyme Disease and unresolved trauma), they only served to affect her brain in ways that left lasting effects, yet didn’t help resolve the feelings she carried. Imagine being able to support treatment of depression, burnout, stress and anxiety in ways that do not involve medication and also improve results of any existing medication without counteracting it. (Note: This course is not mean to replace medication and therapy)
We are whole beings with body, mind and spirit acting as a triad of support of one another. When one part goes out of whack, we can feel destabilized and often without tools to manage and regain our footing. This can leave us feeling out of touch with our deepest self, and lonely, lacking joy.
Shamanic belief is that everything has a spirit, everything is alive. Shamanic technique includes drumming and other techniques such as guided visualization, ritual, & ceremony, finding an animal spirit guide, messages from the ancestors and beloved dead, among many others. These serve to connect the three aspects of self to have them support one another once again.
Come join me in welcoming very special guest, Meri Fowler to Safe Haven. Meri will guide us through the first of a three part series designed to teach Shamanic technique that can support those of us suffering from anxiety, depression and stress. The Shamanic technique can help regain some connection with ourselves and to the innate happiness we all carry inside but perhaps have lost access to.
Note: This course is on a sliding scale. It is important to Meri to support those suffering from depression and anxiety who cannot perhaps pay the regular cost of her course. (Course price is $80, but please pay what you can. Additional donations are most welcome for those who are able to do so).

Laurie McMurdo is a Creative at heart and the founder of Safe Haven. Always fascinated by how a brain’s structure and physiology is affected by and reacts to life experiences, Laurie has a Master’s in Educational Psychology as well as a psychology and teaching degree. She applied her passions in her teaching career of nearly 30 years. Laurie found great joy in the challenge and meaning of creatively finding solutions to her students’ individual learning and developmental needs, honouring their unique essence and guiding them to discover their gifts.
Laurie’s classroom teaching career ended when Lyme Disease entered her body, and she became an artist born of healing when Lyme went to the brain. All of the art on the Safe Haven web page is Laurie’s. She became acutely aware that there is a deep connection between flow and the healing of the brain and body.
She created a modality called “Creative Mindfulness” to help connect to the unconscious and its truth through the magical gateway of calm in the relationship between mindfulness, creativity & guided questioning. Laurie is also certified in hypnotherapy with the American College of Hypnotherapy. She has worked with many women both personally and in groups to help guide them in accessing their truth to consciously design positive and joyous changes in their life.
Understanding the power of connection to like-minded women, Laurie was called to create a gathering place for women to connect, reflect, find clarity and recharge which she has named Safe Haven. With Laurie’s modality called Creative Mindfulness, art, workshops, consultations, collaborations, and programs, she creates “sanctuary during life’s storms.” Helping women to remember the magic of who they are, helping to guide them to where they want to be, holding space for the connection of like-minded souls, and allowing women to share their gifts with one another is Laurie’s mission at Safe Haven.
Laurie’s art and Creative Mindfulness courses can be found at- www.omcreativebymariel.com and on Instagram, Facebook & Etsy at omcreativebymariel.
